Leithakalk

The Leithakalk is known for its limestone soils. There are several disused quarries in the Hotter region of Grosshöflein, relicts of a primeval sea. The varied limestone soils range from lime skeleton soils and lime debris over chalk and meager calcareous rocky brown earths to calcareous black earths.
On those chalky soils ripens the Kollwentz Chardonnays in the vineyard sites Tatschler, Gloria and Kreuzweingärten for the Chardonnay Leithakalk. The calcareous black earths of the vineyard sites Point, Haussatz and Setz are reserved for Blaufränkisch Leithakalk
